Hi there! I’m Kele. That’s my husband and I up there, eating a piece of our 100% vegan wedding cake – which I made myself!
I’m not a pastry chef, or a professional cook of any kind. I’m not a doctor, a nurse, or a dietician. I’m also not a nutritionist, a personal trainer, or (by any far stretch of the imagination) a fitness expert.
I’m just a girl who loves to cook, and to share food with the people I care about. I grew up in the kitchen with my mom and grandmother, and learned from an early age that, really, at the core, food is about sharing and community. From family holiday parties to a romantic dinner for two, food brings people together and creates a sense of belonging.
I decided to be a vegetarian when I was 12 years old, and eventually went fully vegan at 23. It’s been 8 years (!) since then, and I couldn’t be happier with my choice. While I do consider myself an ethical vegan (meaning that my reasoning includes animal rights and welfare, in addition to health and environmental benefits), I strongly believe in that old adage – “You catch more flies with honey than vinegar!” – even if I am replacing the honey with maple syrup or agave nectar these days. I believe that food is the center of everything in every culture, and I’m always humbled by the way an amazing meal can bring a group of people together.
I love showing people that the best food is usually the simplest food, and that cooking and eating well doesn’t have to be difficult or scary. I’ve found the benefits of a plant-based diet to be overwhelmingly positive and rewarding. This website is me reaching out to share that with you.
